Foods To Try At The LA County Fair

It’s that time of year again. The Los Angeles County Fair is going on now until September 25, 2016 at the Fairplex in Pomona. As one of the largest county fairs in California, there is always plenty to do, from concerts to fair rides to special exhibits. However, another major draw is the interesting and outrageous food offerings. It seems every year fair food vendors try to outdo themselves, and this year is no exception. Here are some of the fair foods you may want to check out.

At Chicken Charlie’s, a fair staple, you will find bacon wrapped chicken drumsticks served with fries, deep-fried hot sauce served with hot sauce and jalapenos, bacon s’mores, and chicken in a waffle on a stick. If your heart and stomach can’t handle all that, they are also offering halved pineapple bowls filled with your choice of shrimp or chicken.

Pork lovers should head over to Biggy’s, where you’ll find 8 ounces of Duroc pork belly wrapped in a 24-inch long strip of bacon on a stick. You can also get this in corn dog form, which comes with a Thai chili dipping sauce. Also offered here is deep fried butter, deep fried nachos, and a deep friend dill pickle stuffed with jalapeno cheese.

Tasti Chips is offering sliced red rose potatoes, fried and topped with jalapeno cheese, and churro funnel cakes, either plain or topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. You will also find a chile relleno pretzel bun burger, which features an Angus beef patty with chorizo, a whole chile relleno, tomato, avocado, cheddar dressing, and chipotle mayo all on a pretzel bun.

Cathy’s Cookies are chocolate chip cookies, baked to perfection on site. Buy them by the sleeve (about a dozen) or bucket (three dozen).

Another fair staple is Juicy’s. Aside from the classics, which include giant turkey legs and funnel cake, this year they are also offering turkey tacos (three per portion).

Looking for a little New Orleans’ fare? Harold and Belle’s delivers a menu that includes crawfish étouffée and charbroiled oysters.

As implied in its name, Fried-A-Fair is serving a bevy of fried foods. However, what you need to try here is the Affogato – cold gelato with a shot of espresso.

A vet at the Orange County and San Diego fairs, Bacon-A-Fair makes its debut this year. You will find bacon all over this menu, including French toast bacon bombs served with syrup and cheesy bombs served with a garlic-butter sauce.

Vegans can enjoy the fair food, too! Plant Food For People features a vegan friendly menu which includes vegan jackfruit tacos, loaded tacos, all-vegan potato-based nachos, and a jackfruit torta sandwich.

Exciting Eats From The Los Angeles County Fair

The Los Angeles County Fair is coming to Pomona this Friday September 4, 2015! Our neighbors at the Fairplex are preparing for a whirlwind month of fair fun. There’s always plenty of attractions at the fair, but there’s always plenty to eat, too. If you find yourself at the LA County Fair this month, be sure to check out some of these extravagant eats.

Deep-Fried Foods
There will be no shortage of deep-fried foods this year. You’ll find the standard deep-fried Twinkies and deep-fried Oreos, but there are some new options also. You can try a Funnel Cake Hot Dog or a Deep-fried Peanut Butter Pickle. The names are self-explanatory, but you’ll have to try them to fully enjoy their uniqueness.

BBQ
Ribs, chicken, smoked sausage, turkey legs – There’s no doubt you will be able to get your BBQ fix at the fair. If you’re feeling brave (and hungry) you may want to try the Pig Trough. BBQ pork rinds are topped with pulled pork, ranch beans, and coleslaw. Or you may want to opt for the Cowboy Fries – French fries topped with BBQ Tri-Tip and shredded cheese.

Specialty Burgers
Food vendors at the fair are adventurous, to say the least. When it comes to burgers, you’ll find some interesting sweet and savory combinations. The Funnel Cake burger sandwiches the typical cheeseburger between two pieces of funnel cake, while the Spicy PB&J burger features chunky peanut butter spread, strawberry preserves, Sriracha bacon spread with a half-pound Angus Beef patty on a brioche bun.

International Food
Aside from the usual fair food, find a great selection of ethnic cuisine, including Pad Thai, kabobs, tacos, and more. The Mexican curly fries are a sight for sore eyes. Curly fries, beans, jalapenos and cheese are served together in the form of a giant ball. This one is definitely shareable.

Artisan Eats
For more health conscious eats, you can head to the Farm, where they are growing fresh, produce and vegetables. The Farm Kitchen serves wood-grilled flatbread made to order and topped with their fresh, organic produce. In addition, the Harvest Table will host Farm To Table dining through the year.

The Brick Market & Deli – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On a sunny Thursday in Pomona, members of the Pomona Chamber of Commerce & City Council, employees from the Pomona Unified school district, and friends from the local Pomona community gathered at The Brick Market and Deli for an exciting day.

Brick Market Pomona, CAOur ribbon cutting ceremony kicked off around 11:30am on February 13, 2014. Entertainment was provided by the Pomona High School drum line and cheerleaders. Tables, chairs, and balloons were set up in the patio area and parking lot with a wide assortment of food samples. These included Stacy’s pita chips and house made hummus, as well as hearty chili, pasta salad, coleslaw and a platter of Boar’s Head meats & cheeses. Samples of baked goods were also brought out and went fairly quickly.

Attendees took advantage of the special discounts as they tried sandwiches and salads from the menu. They mingled and madBrick Market Deli certificatese new friends as they enjoyed their food, while others took some time to browse our market area.

Finally it was time for the ribbon cutting. Kind, supportive words were shared from council members as they welcomed the Brick Market and Deli to the Chamber of Commerce. The ribbon was cut and the festivities continued.

Unfortunately, the heat cut the ceremony shorter than expected. By about 1pm, scraps of samples were left and, with the exception of a few, most of our guests resumed their work day.

We showered with praise for our hard work on opening the place, and providing a fresh, new alternative to the Pomona community. We sincerely appreciate your support and would like to thank everyone who made our ribbon cutting ceremony a success.
